CHICAGO--Jensen's Magic, a much-advertised and hyped magic show slated to open May 3rd at the Mercury Theater, was abruptly canceled because of "technical reasons" immediately following its final preview on Saturday. Pete Jensen has performed the show throughout the U.S. and abroad but, apparently, won't bring it to Chicago. The popular North Side theater had made room for Jensen's illusions by turning down the chance to host Prop Theatre's ambitious play festival, an O'Neill Center showcase sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation. Now the venue will be dark for the remainder of the spring. The Mercury will need some magic of its own and quickly.
