Jay Roach will direct the film that has a screenply by John McNamara, based on Bruce Cook's 1977 book "Trumbo." As previously reported, Cranston (All The Way, Breaking Bad) will star as Trumbo.
Goodman ("Roseanne," Waiting for Godot) is in discussions to play film producer Frank King. It has also been reported that Academy and Olivier Award winner Helen Mirren will star as gossip columnist Hedda Hopper in the film.
Mirren is slated to return to Broadway later this season in the New York transfer of Peter Morgan's The Audience.
A play, which is unrelated to the film project, also titled Trumbo, played Off-Broadway in 2003-04. Created by the late screenwriter's son, Christopher Trumbo, the play was culled from the letters of the legendary blacklisted screenwriter. Numerous actors starred in the Off-Broadway production, including Nathan Lane, F. Murray Abraham, Brian Dennehy, Gore Vidal, Richard Dreyfuss, Roger Rees, Robert Loggia, Christopher Lloyd, Michael Richards and Chris Cooper.
