News Jonathan Groff Joins Cast of Disney's "Frozen" Animated Musical Tony Award nominee Jonathan Groff will join Tony Award winner Idina Menzel and Kristin Bell for the new Disney animated musical "Frozen," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

As previously reported, the musical based on Hans Christian Andersen's "The Snow Queen," features music by Avenue Q and Book of Mormon Tony winner Robert Lopez and his wife, Kristen Anderson-Lopez ("Winnie the Pooh," Up Here, In Transit).

Groff (Spring Awakening, The Submission, "Glee") will voice the role of "mountain man" Kristof, with Menzel (Wicked, Rent) as the Snow Queen and Bell ("Reefer Madness," "Heroes") as Anna.

Chris Buck ("Tarzan," "Surf's Up") will direct the computer-animated film that has a script by Jennifer Lee ("Wreck-It Ralph") and is produced by Peter Del Vecho ("Winnie the Pooh," "The Princess and the Frog").

It is aiming for a Nov. 27, 2013, release.

Here's how Disney characterizes the film: "In 'Frozen,' a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, so Anna (Bell) must team up with Kristoff, a daring mountain man, on the grandest of journeys to find the Snow Queen (Menzel) and put an end to the icy spell. Encountering Everest-like extremes, mystical creatures and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction."
