Haas was trained as a pianist, conductor, and musicologist in Germany, and moved to Detroit in 1936. He first appeared on the radio as the host of Detroit Symphony broadcasts in 1950, and began broadcasting Adventures in Good Music in 1959 on Detroit's WJR-AM. Starting in 1970, WCLV produced and distributed the program, which was heard on hundreds of stations in the United States, Australia, Mexico, Panama, and on Armed Forces Radio.
On the program, Haas played and discussed classical music with the casual listener in mind. The episodes had such titles as "The Joy of Sax" and "Baroque and in Debt."
Haas was the author of Inside Music, which has been in print since 1984, and was the producer of several bestselling CDs. He was the president of the Interlochen Academy of the Arts from 1967 to 1971.
In a statement, WCLV said that Adventures in Good Music will remain on the air. "Because his programs are timeless, WCLV will continue to make these priceless musical treasures available to the WCLV audiences and to other radio stations," the statement read.
