Kate Whoriskey, who directed Broadway's The Miracle Worker and is a Drama Desk winner for MTC's Ruined, will helm the piece, which is set to open March 18.

Here's how it's billed: "Heléna lost her husband in World War I, and with him, her financial security. Struggling to maintain her way of life, she becomes part of an illicit underworld. Heléna manages to separate her secret life from her public persona – that is until she crosses paths with a man who has the power to expose and ruin her. Set as an enormous political tide is turning throughout Europe, David Grimm's witty and beautifully poetic new work explores the effects of war on women, the circumstances that control their lives and the dreams that set them free."

Casting and a creative team will be announced at a later date.

Playwright Grimm is an award-winning playwright and screenwriter. Most recently, he wrote and adapted the dialogue for Matthew Barney's upcoming art film "River of Fundament." His plays include Measure for Pleasure (Public Theatre, Bug 'n Bub Award, GLAAD Award nomination); The Miracle at Naples (Huntington, Best New Play IRNE Award); Steve & Idi (Rattlestick); Chick (Hartford Stage); The Learned Ladies of Park Avenue (Hartford Stage); Kit Marlowe (Public Theatre, GLAAD Award nomination); Sheridan, or Schooled in Scandal (La Jolla); Enough Rope (Williamstown); and Susanna Centlivre's The Gaming Table (for which he wrote additional material, Folger Library Theatre).

Tales From Red Vienna is presented as part of MTC's 2013-14 season, joining the previously announced world-premiere productions of The Snow Geese by Sharr White, directed by Daniel Sullivan and starring Mary-Louise Parker; The Commons of Pensacola by Amanda Peet, directed by Lynne Meadow and starring Blythe Danner and Sarah Jessica Parker; and When We Were Young and Unafraid by Sarah Treem, directed by Pam MacKinnon and starring Cherry Jones. Additional productions for the 2013-14 season will be announced. MTC is under the artistic direction of Lynne Meadow, with Barry Grove as executive producer and Mandy Greenfield as artistic producer.
