Katie Finneran assumes the Sally Bowles role in Roundabout’s Tony Award-winning production effective Nov. 21. Finneran replaces Lea Thompson, who left the show with her final performance on Nov. 19 . <p as="" reported="" earlier,="" broadway's="" fifth="" longest-running="" revival,=""><i>Cabaret</i> passed the 1,000th performance mark on Sept. 14. The current cast now includes Katie Finneran (Sally Bowles), Matt McGrath (emcee), Dick Latessa (Herr Schultz), Carole Shelley (Fraulein Schneider), Michael Hayden (Clifford Bradshaw), Candy Buckley (Fraulein Kost) and Martin Moran (Ernst Ludwig).</p><p> Directed by Sam Mendes with Rob Marshall, the revival of <i>Cabaret</i> is based on Christopher Isherwood real-life account in “The Berlin Stories.” <i>Cabaret</i> features music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and book by Joe Masteroff. The story takes place in Berlin and involves a British woman’s romance with an American writer at the onset of the Third Reich. </p><p> The show opened March 19, 1998 and went on to win four Tony Awards (including Best Musical Revival), three Drama Desk Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, a Theatre World Award, an Astaire Award and a special award from the New York Drama Critics.</p><p> A consistent draw, the show has routinely adopted new cast members. Like other Sally’s, Finneran brings years of experience to her role, having appeared on Broadway in <i>The Iceman Cometh</i> with Kevin Spacey (directed by Howard Davies) as well as in Jon Robin Baitz’s translation of <i>Hedda Gabler</i> at Bay Street and Williamstown (directed by Nicholas Martin). Her other Broadway credits include Neil Simon’s <i>Proposals, The Heiress, In the Summerhouse, My Favorite Year, Two Shakespearean Actors</i>and <i>On Borrowed Time.</i> Off-Broadway, she appeared in <iarms and="" the="" man=""><i>Bosom and Neglect</i> (Signature), <i>You Never Can Tell</i> (Roundabout), Jon Robin Baitz’s <i>A Fair Country</i> (Lincoln Center Theater), <i>Lil Abner</i> (City Center Encores!) and <i>Edith Stein </i>(Jewish Rep). </iarms></p><p> Tickets range from $45 - $90.
