News Kid Creole Musical Cherchez La Femme to Debut Off-Broadway La MaMa will stage the new work penned by Kid Creole and the Coconuts’ August Darnell.

La MaMa will present the world premiere of Cherchez La Femme, a new musical inspired by the 1976 pop song of the same name, beginning May 20. Penned by Kid Creole and the Coconuts' August Darnell, the musical is inspired by his real-life experiences and is billed as a fictional account about a band called Caufy Keeps and the Lemon Drops.

With a book by Darnell and Vivien Goldman and music by Stony Browder, Jr. and Darnell, the new work is directed by Angie Kristic with choreography by Kyndra Reevey. Cherchez La Femme will officially open May 23 at La MaMa’s Ellen Stewart Theatre.

The cast includes Jacira Araujo, Aja Downing, Isaac Gay, Chrisopher Hanford, Kristina Hanford, Julius Hollingsworth, Traci Michelle, Molly Mccloskey, CB Murray, Julia Neveu, Antonio Rowland, Carey Segal, Nerses Stamos, Jenna Velichko and Skyler Volpe.
