A new production of Carlos Gozzi's The King Stag, complete with shadows, puppets, live music and sleight of hand sequences, is to be performed at NY's Access Theatre, Mar. 5-21.

The work is being presented by wE mUst bE iDioTs,a nonprofit theatre company dedicated to presenting comedies that are "highly physical, vibrant and truly funny," according to the group's mission statement. wE mUst bE iDioTs recently performed their production of My TV Show at the Avignon Theatre Festival in France.

The King Stag is a fairy tale with a modern spin, King Deramo searches for true love, finding it unexpectedly with a maiden, Angela. But the king is duped by his evil minister, Tartaglia, who uses magic to steal his identity and his wife.

The director is Adam Melnick; the cast features Christopher Andersson, Amy Brienes, Ray Brahmi, Sharon Cinnamon, Amalie Ceene, Hyoung-Taek Limb, Julia Martin, Steven McElroy, Scott Nankivel and Jay Smith.

Performances are Thurs.- Sat. at 8PM and Sun. at 3 and 8 PM at the Access Theatre, 380 Broadway, 4th floor. For tickets, $12, call (212) 946-2142. -- By Sean McGrath and Rebecca Paller
