LAST CHANCE: What's Closing This Week

News   LAST CHANCE: What's Closing This Week
Here's's weekly "Last Chance" reminder to catch Broadway, Off-Broadway and world-premiere productions before they take a final bow.

Concluding July 7 Silence! The Musical (Off-Broadway at the Elektra Theatre). Silence! The Musical, winner of the 2012 Off Broadway Alliance Award for Best Musical, features Sean McDermott as Hannibal Lecter and Laura Jordan as Clarice Starling with David Ayers, Howard Kaye, Tyler Maynard, Sarah O'Gleby, Ronica V. Reddick, Kevin Spirtas, Kimberly Stern, Natalie Joy Johnson and Kevin Za. "In the Academy Award-winning film 'The Silence of the Lambs,'" press notes state, "rookie FBI agent Clarice Starling matches wits with the brilliant but insane cannibal, Dr. Hannibal Lecter, to catch the serial killer known only as Buffalo Bill. Clarice faces her own demons while racing the clock to unlock Lecter's clues before another innocent girl is killed and skinned by Buffalo Bill. The laugh-out-loud wicked satire, Silence! The Musical, features a singing chorus of floppy eared lambs narrating the action as Buffalo Bill gleefully dances a hoedown while kidnapping hapless Catherine Martin. Even Dr. Lecter, scary as ever, sings about the life he'd like to lead someday outside the prison walls." Visit

Far From Heaven (Off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons). Kelli O'Hara, Steven Pasquale and Isaiah Johnson star in Far From Heaven, the musical adaptation of Todd Haynes' 1950s-set film by Tony Award-nominated Grey Gardens songwriters Michael Korie and Scott Frankel and Take Me Out Tony Award winner Richard Greenberg. In the show, according to PH, "Cathy Whitaker (O'Hara) seems to be the picture-perfect wife and mother in 1957 suburban Connecticut. But roiling beneath the surface, secret longings and forbidden desires cause her world to unravel, with incendiary consequences. With a lush score that is both jazz-inflected and hauntingly lyrical, Far From Heaven is a powerful story of romance, betrayal and intolerance, as a woman grapples with her identity in a society on the verge of upheaval."
