Lee Roy Reams Has Finally Found His Ideal Star for Hello, Dolly! | Playbill

News Lee Roy Reams Has Finally Found His Ideal Star for Hello, Dolly! Lee Roy Reams has directed a lot of great divas in Hello, Dolly!, including Carol Channing herself in the final Broadway revival. But he may finally have come upon the ideal casting for the irrepressible Yonkers matchmaker—himself.

Reams will play Dolly Gallagher Levi in Jerry Herman's musical classic at the Wick Theatre in Boca Raton, FL, Nov. 5-Dec. 6 opposite Lewis J. Stadlen as Horace Vandergelder. Reams is no stranger to drag, having played Albin in Wick Theatre's run of Herman's La Cage aux Folles.

Reams made his Broadway debut in the chorus of Sweet Charity (1966) with Gwen Verdon. He went on to appear with Lauren Bacall in Applause (1970) and Carol Channing in Lorelei (1974) and Hello, Dolly! (1978 revival, in which he played Cornelius Hackl). Other roles include Billy Lawlor in 42nd Street and replacement Roger De Bris in The Producers, but in recent years he has concentrated more on directing, including numerous productions of Hello, Dolly!, including one in New York with an all-Asian cast for the National Asian Artists Project.
