Zimmerman steps into the role of merry murderess Velma Kelly, a role she played in the London production of the John Kander and Fred Ebb musical.
The singing actress joins a cast that currently includes Tony nominee Charlotte d'Amboise as Roxie Hart, Tom Hewitt as Billy Flynn, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart and Roz Ryan as Matron "Mama" Morton. (As previously reported, Brent Barrett will return as Billy Flynn beginning Oct. 11.)
Zimmerman has also been seen on Broadway in The Will Rogers Follies, Crazy for You and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Her London stage credits also include The Seven Year Itch, Contact (The Girl in the Yellow Dress), Three on a Couch and The Producers, earning a 2004 Olivier Award nomination for Best Leading Actress for her performance as Ulla in the latter.
Chicago won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997 as well as awards for actors Bebe Neuwirth and James Naughton, director Walter Bobbie, lighting designer Ken Billington and choreographer Ann Reinking. The original production was directed and choreographed by the late Bob Fosse.
