Now that playwright Warren Leight is a bonafide success, comes the second phase of his newfound fame: revivals of his earlier, neglected work. Mobius Group Productions will present an Off-Broadway mounting of Leight's The Loop. Hilary Hinckle, managing director of the Atlantic Theatre Company, will direct.
The Loop was first staged in fall of 1994 at the Harold Clurman Theatre on Theatre Row. One of the stars of that production, Austin Pendleton (Finian's Rainbow), will repeat his performance in the new incarnation. Also in the 11-person cast are Joe Grifasi ("Presumed Innocent," "One Fine Day"), Tom Bloom, Cynthia Carrol, Jen Davis, Rick Gradone, Maggie Kiley, Nile Lanning, Tonia Lynn, Paul Marcarelli and Josh Stramberg.
The Loop is described as "La Ronde with feeling," referring to Arthur Schnitzler's famous play about a daisy chain of sexual encounters. David Hare's The Blue Room, recently on Broadway, was a modern take on La Ronde.
The Loop will play at the Currican Theatre, 154 W. 29th St. For information, call (212) 358-3667.
