The starry film adaptation of the award-winning musical Les Misérables received three awards, including Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy). Anne Hathaway, who played the ill-fated Fantine and received critical acclaim for her performance, took home the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, and Tony Award winner Hugh Jackman, who starred in the massive role of Jean Valjean, received the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy).

Jessica Chastain, who currently stars in the Broadway revival of The Heiress, won the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) for her work in "Zero Dark Thirty"; and Daniel Day-Lewis took home the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama) for Dreamworks' "Lincoln," the Abraham Lincoln biopic from Oscar winner Steven Spielberg and Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner.  "Argo" took home awards for Best Motion Picture (Drama) and for Best Director Ben Affleck, who also starred in the fact-based film.

Maggie Smith, Julianne Moore, Damian Lewis, Ed Harris, Don Cheadle, Claire Danes and more received awards for their television work. 

Presenters at the ceremony included Catherine Zeta-Jones, Kate Hudson, Rosario Dawson, Paul Rudd, Bill Clinton, Amanda Seyfried, Lucy Liu, Debra Messing, Lea Michele, Sacha Baron Cohen and George Clooney, among others.
