News Lingoland Begins Previews at York Theatre Company Feb. 7 LingoLand — a musical revue celebrating the works of librettist, lyricist, playwright, composer and visual artist Kenward Elmslie — begins performances Feb. 7 at the York Theatre Company.

The revue officially open Feb. 23 and is scheduled to run through March 20. James Morgan directs a cast that includes Jane Bodle, Jason Dula, Jeanne Lehman, Lauren Shealy, Steve Routman and Elmslie. Jack Lee is the show's musical supervisor.

LingoLand, with musical staging by Janet Watson and music direction by Matt Castle, features theatre songs, opera arias, poems, poem songs, tall tales, memories and play scenes, all woven together and all featuring the words of Kenward Elmslie. Among Elmslie's collaborators are Joe Brainard, Red Grooms, Larry Rivers, Alex Katz, Claibe Richardson, Ned Rorem, Jack Beeso, Steven Taylor, Doug Katsaros, Joshua Rosenblum, Andrew Gerle and Steven Dolginoff.

The revue's creative team also includes Mary Jo Dondlinger (lighting designer) and Suzy Benzinger (costume designer).

Kenward Elmslie wrote the book and lyrics for the musicals The Grass Harp and Lola, both with music by Claibe Richardson; and Postcards on the Edge, with music by Steven Taylor. His opera librettos include The Sweet Bye and Bye, Lizzie Borden, Miss Julie, The Seagull, Washington Square and Three Sisters.

LingoLand plays Monday and Wednesday through Saturday evenings at 8 PM with Wednesday and Saturday matinees at 2:30 PM and Sunday matinees at 3 PM.
