A new song by Beyoncé, "Spirit," has heralded a companion album to the upcoming The Lion King remake.
The song will appear on the soundtrack in addition to the The Lion King: The Gift, an album produced and curated by Beyoncé herself in honor of the Disney movie. "Spirit" is available on all digital streaming platforms ahead of The Gift’s release July 19 (the same day as the movie). The film's soundtrack is set for digital released on July 11.
"This is sonic cinema," said the Grammy winner. "This is a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip hop and Afro Beat."
Beyoncé voices Nala in The Lion King opposite Donald Glover as Simba. The cast also includes Billy Eichner as Timon, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, James Earl Jones reprising his voice performance as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, John Kani as Rafiki, and John Oliver as Zazu.
