Performances of Elaine Murphy's Little Gem begin July 17 at Irish Repertory Theatre Off-Broadway. The story of three generations of North Dublin women is directed by Marc Atkinson Borrull, with a cast made up of Marsha Mason, Brenda Meaney, and Lauren O’Leary.

Previously seen in New York in 2010, Little Gem is playing a limited engagement through September 1. Opening night is July 25.

In Little Gem, young Amber (O'Leary) has a case of indigestion which grows into something more, her mother Lorraine (Meaney) discovers salsa dancing after an incident at work leads to therapist-suggested self-care, while Grandmother Kay (Mason), “on the wrong side of sixty, but not dead yet,” struggles to take care of a personal itch while adjusting to life as a caretaker for her beloved Gem.

The play premiered at the Dublin Fringe Festival in 2008, where it won the Fishamble New Writing Award before transferring to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The Irish Rep revival features set design by Meredith Ries (Cute Activist), costume design by Christopher Metzger (Life Sucks), lighting design by Michael O’Connor (Two by Friel), and sound design by Ryan Rumery (Be More Chill). Arthur Atkinson (Juno and the Paycock) serves as production stage manager.
