News Little House on the Prairie Musical Will Begin Guthrie Run in July As previously announced, Little House on the Prairie, a new musical based on Laura Ingalls Wilder's popular "Little House on the Prairie" book series, will make its world premiere at the Guthrie's McGuire Proscenium Stage this summer.

Performances will begin at the Guthrie July 26 with an official opening Aug. 15. The limited engagement — directed by The Little Mermaid's Francesca Zambello — will run through Oct. 5.

Single tickets for the production, priced $29-$75, will go on sale June 27 by calling (612) 377-2224 or (877) 44-STAGE or by visiting www.guthrietheater.org/prairie.

The new musical features a book by Rachel Sheinkin, music by Rachel Portman and lyrics by Donna DiNovelli.

The creative team for Little House also includes set designer Adrianne Lobel, costume designer Jess Goldstein, lighting designer Mark McCullough, sound designer Scott W. Edwards, choreographer Michele Lynch and musical director Mary-Mitchell Campbell.

No Little House casting has been announced, although the April 2007 workshop in Manhattan featured Melissa Gilbert, who played Laura in the TV version of the "Prairie" books, as Ma with Patrick Swayze as Pa. The cast also included Sara Chase as Laura, Tony Yazbeck as Almanzo, Sara Ford as Nellie and Olivier Award winner Jenny Galloway as Mrs. Brewster. Little House on the Prairie is being produced at the Guthrie by special arrangement with Global Prairie Productions, Inc.

The Guthrie is located at 818 South 2nd Street in downtown Minneapolis.
