Liza Minnelli announced her return to the Mexican stage in a special concert to benefit AcaSida, a Mexican non-profit organization dedicated to fight AIDS. The concert will be held at Acapulco's Centro de Convenciones (Convention Center) Feb. 7, 1998.
It has been announced that Mexican group of singers Los Hermanos Castro (The Castro Brothers), who are good friends of Minnelli, will join her at the concert along with pianist Billy Stritch. Liza will wear costume designs by fashion designer Esteban Matison, who is also the president of AcaSida.
At this concert, Liza Minnelli will perform Kander and Ebb's "The Day After That" (El Dia Despues), which is the song from Kiss of the Spider Woman that she adopted as an anthem in the battle against AIDS. The Spanish lyrics for "The Day After That" were written by Gloria Estefan.
Liza last performed in Mexico at Mexico City's Teatro Metropolitan June 27- 29, 1997.
