The Sept. 23 concert will be held at London's Prince Edward Theatre and will feature the talents of Maria Friedman, Don Pippin, Debbie Gravitte, Capital Voices and composer Herman himself; additional artists will be announced. The singers will be backed by the BBC Concert Orchestra, which will be conducted by Larry Blank. The 7:30 PM concert will be recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 2. The program will air at Christmas as part of the BBC's Friday Night Is Music Night series.
Concertgoers can expect to hear such Herman tunes as "I Am What I Am," "The Best of Times," "Put On Your Sunday Clothes," "Before The Parade Passes By," "Tap Your Troubles Away," "Hello Dolly" and "I Won't Send Roses."
One of the theatre's most celebrated composers, Jerry Herman has written the scores for such Broadway musicals as Milk and Honey; Hello, Dolly!; Mame; Dear World; Mack & Mabel; The Grand Tour and La Cage aux Folles. He also contributed songs to A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine, and revues of his work include Jerry's Girls and An Evening with Jerry Herman. The songwriter won Tony Awards for his scores for Hello, Dolly! and La Cage aux Folles.
