Performances of The King and I were canceled Oct. 23-25, but it was announced that the show was going ahead as usual Oct. 26.
The reasons for the cancellation are cited as "technical." Technical problems can happen in even the best-run shows - as Sir Peter Hall mentioned at the National Theatre's 25th anniversary celebrations last night. Hall described how the revolve that is a central feature of the Olivier theatre didn't work properly for years: and that once it was fixed he kept the fact quiet for several years after that!
The King and I has proved a popular and resilient show, and will no doubt soon recover from its current problems.
