The Nashville Symphony, with the help of sponsors and members of the local community, is arranging to fly LPO players and staff to Nashville. Nashville Symphony musicians will host their counterparts in their homes, and will fill in for musicians who cannot attend. (A majority of LPO's 68 players are expected to perform.) Local restaurants will provide food.
"It will be such a gift for our orchestra to perform together again," said Seibel. "Our musicians are spread out all over the country, and after a tragedy such as Katrina, nothing heals the soul more than seeing our colleagues, our friends, and playing music with them again. We are extremely grateful to the Nashville Symphony for giving us this opportunity."
Tickets are $30 to $70, and can be purchased at www.nashvillesymphony.org or by calling 615-255-ARTS (2787). Proceeds will go to support the LPO, providing health insurance for musicians and staff and instrument insurance for musicians.
The concert will be carried live on WPLN in Nashville, on other NPR stations around the country, and on www.npr.org.
