Luis Ramirez, one of the most active Spanish producers, has put together a new project: Peter Pan, the Musical. Ramirez smashed all theatre records in Spain with El Hombre de la Mancha (Man of La Mancha ). He has also obtained the rights to perform the plays of the Really Useful Company, Ramirez opted for young English composer Piers Chater Robinson's modern version of the classic J.M. Barrie story. Peter Pan opened Nov. 22 after two weeks of previews, at Madrid's Lope de Vega Theater.
Ramirez directed Peter Pan himself. The musical director is Carlos Marin, who also performs the role of Hook. Raquel Grijalbo, the young singer who will perform the role of Marty in the upcoming production of Grease, plays Peter, and Virginia Martinez (Maria in West Side Story ) is Wendy. Choreography is by Ramon Oller.
Coinciding with the premiere of the musical is the release of its recording, with a special contribution by one of Spain's best known vocalists, Mercedes Ferrer, who sings the single "No es el adios" ("Don't say goodbye").
