On Broadway, the Frank Loesser musical originally starred the bounding, tap-happy Ray Bolger. Racey made a breakthough earlier this season in the short-lived Broadway musical, Never Gonna Dance, shaking his shoes in a role created by Fred Astaire. He was a dance captain for Broadway's Thoroughly Modern Millie and appeared in that show's original cast. Based on the collegiate farce, Charley's Aunt, the 1948 musical (which spawned "Once in Love With Amy" and "My Darling, My Darling") plays East Haddam, CT, July 9-Sept. 25.
A New York revival in 1974 played a brief run at Circle in the Square Uptown starring Raul Julia. The original, with book and direction by George Abbott, ran almost 800 performances.
