News Make Their Garden Grow: Reichard, Blazer and Kind Star in NYCO's Candide, Beginning April 8 Daniel Reichard, who created the role of Bob Gaudio in the Tony-winning musical Jersey Boys, stars in the title role of the New York City Opera's limited engagement of Candide, which begins performances April 8 at at the New York State Theater at Lincoln Center.

Reichard is joined onstage by Broadway and City Opera veteran Judith Blazer as The Old Lady, The Producers' Richard Kind as Dr. Pangloss/Voltaire, Jessica Wright (Broadway's LoveMusik, Company and Sweeney Todd) as Paquette, baritone Kyle Pfortmiller as Maximillian, Christopher Jackson as Lion, Peter Samuel as Huntsman, Robert Ousley as Baron, Eric Michael Gillett as Don Issachar, William Ledbetter as Don 2 and John Paul Almon as Don 3 with Deborah Lew, Sarah Moulton and Sandy Rosenberg.

Lauren Worsham and Lielle Berman share the role of Cunegonde. Worsham will play Cunegonde April 8, 10, 12 (matinee), 13 (matinee), 16, 18, 19 (evening) and 20 (matinee); Berman will play the role April 9, 11, 12 (evening), 15, 17 and 19 (matinee).

Arthur Masella directs the Harold Prince production with choreography by Patricia Birch. George Manahan conducts the orchestra. The staging also features sets by Clarke Dunham, costumes by Judith Dolan, lighting by Ken Billington and sound by Abe Jacob.

Performances continue through April 20.

Candide features music by Leonard Bernstein, a book by Hugh Wheeler, lyrics by Richard Wilbur with additional lyrics by Bernstein, John Latouche and Stephen Sondheim. Daniel Reichard played Bob Gaudio in Broadway's Jersey Boys, a role he created at the La Jolla Playhouse. The actor made his New York debut in Forbidden Broadway: 20th Anniversary Celebration and then played Keith Haring in the Public Theater's Radiant Baby. He appeared Off-Broadway in The Thing About Men, and his regional credits include productions of Brigadoon and Blood Drive.
