The Harbor Theatre Company (Stuart Warmflash, artistic director) is bringing its latest production, Making Peter Pope by Edmund De Santis, Off-Broadway to the 30th Street Theater (259 West 30th between 7th & 8th Avenues). Previews begin Feb. 12 with opening night on Monday, Feb. 15, which has already sold out. The show will run until March 6, 1999.

Directed by Derek Todd, the modern-day comedy tells of a gay man's struggle with life and his quest for love in some unusual places. If that is not enough excitement for one story, add to the picture his dysfunctional family, including a suicidal lesbian sister, a grief stricken father, an ex showgirl stepmother, and a pot-head stepsister whose husband is homophobic.

Edmund De Santis' other plays include the award-winning Recensio, Thinking and Other Positions, and American Subways. Derek Todd has appeared as an actor in Harbor Theater Company readings, and has directed other plays in New York, such as A Flea in Her Ear, River Views, and Vinegar Tom.

The cast of Making Peter Pope is Michael Anderson, Harry Bouvy, Joanne Dorian, Carol Hache, Eric Morace, Alysia Reiner and Fred Velde. Designing the show are Charles Townsend Witteich Jr. (set), Martha Bromeimeier (costumes), and Matt Berman (sound and lighting) .

Founded three years ago, the Harbor Company started as a writers' workshop and soon expanded into production. Ask about the special offer for the Feb. 12 preview, all those showing a gym card getting tickets for $10 (first come, first serve). In addition two benefit performances, the first on opening night, will benefit the company. Tickets are $25. The second on February 18, 1999, raises money for Callen Lourde, an AIDS facility.
