Actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner will star in the West Coast premiere of his own work Love & Other Social Issues, starting June 1 in Los Angeles.

Kianga Entertainment and Pamela Warner present the show written and performed by Warner ("The Cosby Show"), which is slated to open June 2 at the Assistance League Playhouse for a run through July 8. Denise Dowse directs.

In Love & Other Social Issues, Warner "gives a bird's-eye view on inner-city life, self-esteem, matters of the heart, drug culture and the ever-constant changes in life," according to show notes. "He rallies for love, loyalty and respect for one's self and for others."

Warner — known for his television turn as the son Theo on "The Cosby Show" — has appeared onstage in Three Ways Home, Cryin' Shame, Freefall and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Other credits include "Malcolm & Eddie," "All That," "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and more.

The actor will be accompanied onstage by a jazz-funk ensemble. The work debuted in 2003 at The National Black Theater Festival in Winston-Salem.

Director Dowse has previously staged Long Time Since Yesterday and When Willows Weep in Foxholes. As an actress, she is known for her role as Vice Principal Tensley on "Beverly Hills 90210."
