Kudisch will be replaced in Millie's sights by Ben Davis, Tony-honored as one of the Marcellos in Baz Luhrmann's La Bohème. He's also a veteran of Les Misérables on Broadway and on tour. He plays Trevor starting July 22. Although Kudisch has played a number of high-profile roles on Broadway, including the broad Gaston in Beauty and the Beast and Jeff Moss in Bells Are Ringing, his part in Millie was so full of comic and vocal surprises — including launching into the Victor Herbert operetta standard, "I'm Falling in Love With Someone," and a Gilbert and Sullivan-inspired patter song — audiences and critics saw him anew.
In Millie, the title character decides she is going to marry her boss, Mr. Graydon, who falls for someone else. When Kudisch stepped out of the show earlier this year to appear at the dragoon Carl-Magnus in New York City Opera's A Little Night Music, Christopher Sieber took over the role of Mr. Graydon, and then Kudisch returned to the show. Sieber is now working on a sitcom that will also feature Millie's Harriet Harris (who leaves the Broadway run Aug. 3).
Throughly Modern Millie, winner of 2002 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Actress (Sutton Foster), Best Orchestrations, Best Costumes and Best Featured Actress (Harriet Harris), continues at the Marquis Theatre.
