Dodge, who received a Tony Award nomination for direction and choreography of the Broadway revival of Ragtime, will stage the film-noir inspired mystery, which is authored by her husband, Anthony Dodge. Performances will be presented Nov. 4-14 at the Workshop Theater.

A 2007 Best Actress Tony Award nominee for Coram Boy, Elbrick will star as detective Butch Diamond. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

Producers describe Venus Flytrap as a work "in the style of mystery writer Raymond Chandler," which centers on a female detective, Butch Diamond. "A woman who likes women. And whom women like back. A lot. While there are no chronicles confirming the 40’s detective heroine existing in those conservative times, the play explores how much—or how little—things have changed when it comes to embracing outcasts and disenfranchised citizens. A journey behind closed doors and closed closets, you could call it a postmodernist-feminist mystery play. You could call it femme noir. Or you could simply call it Venus Flytrap."

Venus Flytrap will have scenic design by Michael Schweikardt, costume design by Bobby Pearce, lighting design by Matthew Richards and sound design by Mark Menard.

Anthony Dodge is also the playwright of Sherlock Holmes & The West End Horror and Free Burt Lancaster! He penned the librettos for the musicals Look Homeward Honky Tonk Angel and HATS! (The Red Hat Society Musical).

The Active Theater, Craig Haffner and Karl E. Held produce the run.

Tickets, priced $18, are available by visiting OvationTix.com. The Workshop Theater is located at 312 West 36th Street.
