Marian Seldes follows her Tony-nominated turn in Ring Round the Moon with the Irish Repertory Theatre's staging of Jerome Kilty's Dear Liar. Performances began July 16 for an official opening July 22 and a run through Aug. 29.
Liar tells the story of the 40-year romance between dramatist and critic George Bernard Shaw and actress Mrs. Patrick Campbell, who originated the role of Eliza Doolittle in Shaw's Pygmalion. The play is adapted from the two artists' long correspondence.
This spring, Seldes stepped into Lincoln Center Theater's production of Ring Round the Moon after Irene Worth was felled by a stroke. Seldes went on to play the entire run, earning a Tony nomination as featured actress in a play.
Playing opposite Seldes in Dear Liar is Irish actor Donal Donnelly (Dancing at Lughnasa). Charlotte Moore directs.
Dear Liar plays at Irish Rep's home at 132 W. 22nd St. For information, call (212) 727-2737. -- By Robert Simonson
