News McClanahan, Vereen and Hilty Are New Madame Morrible, Wizard and Glinda in Broadway's Wicked May 31 Rue McClanahan, Ben Vereen and Megan Hilty will all join the cast of Broadway's Wicked on May 31, playing Madame Morrible, the Wizard and Glinda respectively.

They will replace Carole Shelley, George Hearn and Jennifer Laura Thompson in the show. The trio will give their final performances on May 29. Shelley has been with the production since the very beginning, staying with the Broadway staging for a year and a half. Thompson replaced original Glinda, Kristin Chenoweth. Hearn took over for original Wizard, Joel Grey.

McClanahan, a star of TV's "Maude" and "The Golden Girls," was last on Broadway in The Women. Hilty has been a standby for Glinda.

Ben Vereen made his Broadway debut as Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar, earning a Tony Award nomination for his performance. He nabbed the Tony for his work in Bob Fosse's production of Stephen Schwartz's Pippin and has also starred on Broadway in Grind, Jelly's Last Jam and Fosse.

With a score by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, Wicked began previews on Broadway Oct. 8, 2003, with an official opening Oct. 30, 2003. The musical earned the Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album for the popular Decca Broadway original cast recording.

Directed by Joe Mantello, Wicked features choreography by Wayne Cilento and plays the Gershwin, 222 West 51st Street. Tickets are available by calling (212) 307 4100 or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com.
