"This is a big scoop...," Mullally said during her June 2 appearance with husband and Annapurna co-star Nick Offerman. "I'm coming back to do a play on Broadway, a comedy by Terrence McNally called It's Only a Play with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick in the fall."

Mullally ("Will & Grace") was last scheduled to return to Broadway in a 2010 Roundabout Theatre Company revival of McNally's Lips Together, Teeth Apart, which was canceled after the actress abruptly departed the production during rehearsals. Second Stage Theatre recently announced plans to revive Lips Together Off-Broadway this fall.

It was previously reported the Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien (The Nance, Hairspray) will direct It's Only a Play, which will reflect an updated version of the script. The production casts Broderick as a nervous playwright and Lane as his backbiting friend. Manhattan Theatre Club presented It's Only a Play in 1986 with a cast led by James Coco.

McNally's husband, Tom Kirdahy, is the lead producer of the comedy that is aiming for a September Broadway arrival at a theatre to-be-announced. McNally is currently represented on Broadway with his Tony-nominated family drama Mothers and Sons.
