Tony Award-winning South Pacific and Light in the Piazza scenic designer Michael Yeargan has been appointed the co-chair of the Yale School of Drama's design department.

The two-time Tony winner and Yale graduate, whose work is frequently showcased at Lincoln Center Theater, will join current co-chair Stephen Strawbridge as of July 1. Yeargan succeeds veteran Tony winner Ming Cho Lee as co-chair.

Lee (K2, The Glass Menagerie, The Shadow Box) will continue on at Yale in his role as full-time professor in the design department. He has taught at the school since 1969.

Yeargan will also serve as set advisor for the Yale Repertory Theatre in addition to his role as resident set designer.

"Combining extraordinary sophistication with deeply resourceful creativity and the most generous collaborative spirit, Michael is uniquely positioned to join Steve Strawbridge in providing the next generation of leadership to the Design Department, maintaining its storied place in the history of the School and the profession," said Yale School of Drama dean, James Bundy, in a statement.
