"The South African-born and internationally acclaimed director Yael Farber sets her explosive new adaptation of Strindberg's classic Miss Julie in the remote, bleak beauty of the eastern Cape Karoo," according to production notes. "The visceral struggles of contemporary South Africa are laid bare in this domestic setting, as John and Mies Julie spiral one night, in a deadly battle over power, sexuality, memory, mothers and land." The winner of the award receives a fully subsidized production in New York City in January 2013. However, logistical and scheduling conflicts will prevent those involved with Mies Julie from doing the January production, and Tambor has announced an additional winner — Midsummer, a romantic comedy featuring music by David Greig and Gordon McIntyre.

Midsummer, from the 2209 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, will be presented  Jan. 9-Feb. 3, 2013, at the Clurman Theater.
