Man in a Case will play 20 performances at Berkeley Rep’s Roda Theatre through Feb. 16.
Adapted and directed by Annie-B Parson and Paul Lazar of the Big Dance Theater, the production also features choreography by Parson. Baryshnikov is joined onstage by Tymberly Canale, Chris Giarmo, Paul Lazar and Aaron Mattocks.
Man in a Case is based on two of Anton Chekhov's 1898 short stories, “Man in a Case” and “About Love.” In Big Dance Theater’s adaptation, press notes state, "two hunters trade stories both witty and haunting: one about a reclusive man’s courtship of a carefree young woman, which forces him to closely examine his own rigid nature; the other about a man who relives the story of lost love."
The creative team includes Peter Ksander (set design), Oana Botez (costume design), Jennifer Tipton (lighting designer), Tie Blow (sound design) and Jeff Larson (video design).
The play is produced by Baryshnikov Productions in association with ArKtype/Thomas O. Kriegsmann and was commissioned and premiered by Hartford Stage Company.
