Regional actresses Sylvia Carter and Audrey Morgan will play the beloved centenarian siblings in Meadow Brook Theatre's Having Our Say, the Delany Sisters' First 100 Years, Jan. 6-31, 1999 in suburban Detroit. Previews begin Jan. 6 for an opening Jan. 9, 1999.
Emily Mann's stage version of the Sarah L. and A. Elizabeth Delany sisters' autobiography will be directed by Meadow Brook associate director Debra L. Wicks, who directed The Miracle Worker there in October 1998. Carter and Morgan previously played the roles at the New American Theatre in Rockford, IL.
According to the regional theatre organization Theatre Communications Group, Having Our Say -- viewing 20th-century American history through the sisters' African-American eyes -- is one of the 10 most produced scripts in its membership: There will be eight professional resident stagings of the 1995 script around the country in 1998-99.
Designers are Russell M. Schramm (sets), Reid G. Johnson (lighting) and Barbara Jenks (costumes).
The 585-seat Meadow Brook in Rochester, MI, is the state's largest nonprofit professional theatre and its only LORT house. It is the flagship professional resident theatre in Detroit. For ($19.50-$35) ticket information, call (248) 377-3300.
