News Missionary in Manhattan: A Mormon Musical Plays NYC Beginning Aug. 23 The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Brooklyn presents the world premiere of Missionary in Manhattan: A Mormon Musical Aug. 23-Sept. 9 at the Theater for The New City as part of the Dream Up Festival: Theater For The New City’s Summer Showcase.

Described as a new musical comedy "about the fundamentals of big hair, blind faith, and just how plural a marriage can get," the show was penned by the founding members of the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Brooklyn, Caitlin Davis and Elizabeth May.

The cast features Davis and May as well as Dave May and Lily Narbonne. Kaleigh Malloy is the director and musical director.

Missionary in Manhattan, according to press notes, is "the story of three polygamist pop stars. Sister Gretchen, Sister Fanny, and Sister Bunny Katherine, have found themselves abandoned by their brother husband in New York City. Their brother husband, Charles Gregory Howard, was last seen at the Cubby Hole with his vocal coach named Gerard. Ukuleles in tow, Gretchen, Fanny, and Bunny Catherine will turn pop songs into 'God songs,' lament, and stop at nothing to track down the father of their ten children. (The ladies might even ask audience members to babysit while they perform.)"

Running time is 45 minutes.

The production features scenic and lighting design by Flora Vassar; the stage manager is Amy Pen. Performances are Aug. 23 at 6:30 PM, Aug. 29 at 9 PM, Sept. 6 at 9 PM, Sept. 8 at 5 PM and Sept. 9 at 5 PM.

Tickets are $15 and available through SmartTix www.smarttix.com or by calling (212) 868-4444. Theater for The New City is located at 155 1st Avenue.
