News MTC and Ars Nova Join Forces for By The Water, New Play About Hurricane Sandy's Aftermath By The Water, a new play that marks the first produced collaboration between Manhattan Theatre Club and Ars Nova, will receive its world premiere at New York City Center.

Presented by MTC in association with Ars Nova, Sharyn Rothstein's play will begin previews Nov. 4 prior to an official opening Nov. 18. 

Directed by Hal Brooks, the play is part of The Studio at Stage II – Harold and Mimi Steinberg New Play Series.

By The Water was commissioned by The Writer's Room, a partnership between MTC and Ars Nova to create a developmental program for advancing new works, and it is the first world-premiere production to come out of their partnership.

Here's how the work is billed: "Hurricane Sandy has just ravaged the lifelong home of Marty and Mary Murphy. But the storm has ripped apart more than just the walls: with their neighbors too devastated to stay, the couple's beloved Staten Island community is in danger of disappearing forever. Determined to rebuild, Marty wages a campaign to save his neighborhood and his home, but when the Murphys' sons arrive to help their parents dig out, past betrayals come rushing to the surface."
