News MTC to Stage World Premiere of Penelope Skinner's Ruins of Civilization in 2016 Manhattan Theatre Club announced that it will present the world premiere of The Ruins of Civilization, a play set in a future "new world order" by Village Bike playwright Penelope Skinner. Performances for the Off-Broadway engagement will begin in spring 2016.

The Ruins of Civilization will be directed by Leah C. Gardiner (Born Bad) as part of MTC’s The Studio at Stage II – Harold and Mimi Steinberg New Play Series at New York City Center – Stage II.

Previews will begin May 4, 2016, with an official opening night set for May 18.

Here's how the new work is billed by the theatre: "Sometime in the future, Dolores and Silver are living their married life within the constraints and norms of a new world order. In an act of what seems like pure generosity, Dolores secretly opens their home to a stranger in need; but will she come to regret it? Can her actions have an impact or is it just too late? A bold world premiere thriller, The Ruins of Civilization explores our need for free will and connection, even in a world on the brink of extinction."

Casting, creative team and additional information, including how to purchase tickets, will be announced shortly.

British playwright Skinner had her play The Village Bike premiere at MCC in 2014 starring Greta Gerwig and directed by Sam Gold. Her other plays include Fred’s Diner, Eigengrau and Fucked. MTC will price tickets for the first five weeks of The Ruins of Civilization at $30 as part of The Studio at Stage II initiative. For more information visit ManhattanTheatreClub.com.
