Artistic director Scott Elliott will stage the work, which begins previews April 16 toward a May 8 opening night at The New Group at Theatre Row. Choudhury ("Lady in the Water," "Kama Sutra," Roar) will be joined in the ensemble of the play's American premiere by Ranjit Chowdhry ("The Last Holiday"), Sean T. Krishnan, Alison Wright, Alok Tewari, Reshma Shetty, Manish Dayal, Satya Bhabha, Utkarsh Ambudkar and Sakina Jaffrey ("Before the Devil Knows You're Dead").

Penned by the playwright of East is East, Rafta, Rafta... centers on "the story of two Anglo-Indian families in London joined by the marriage of their children," according to a show synopsis. "Newlyweds Atul and Vina are starting their new lives under the groom's parents roof, and Vina's family has to reluctantly let her go. How much scrutiny can a new marriage take?"

Rafta, Rafta..., which is based on Bill Naughton's All in Good Time, played at London's National Theatre in 2007 — where it earned its current Olivier Award nomination. Nicholas Hytner directed Bollywood actor Harish Patel in his London stage debut opposite Meera Syal.

The New Group previously presented Khan-Din's East is East in 1999.

Rafta, Rafta… replaced the previously announced production of Kevin Elyot's Mouth to Mouth, which was to be directed by Mark Brokaw, and now will play in the fall.

The company currently presents the American premiere of Mike Leigh's Two Thousand Years. The show recently extended through March 22.
