The New Jersey Theatre Alliance will present the fifth annual AT&T Family Week at the Theatre March 2-March 10. Young people (5-18 years of age) in all 21 New Jersey counties will receive free tickets to a wide variety of performances and special events, including backstage tours and workshops.
The program was designed to allow families to attend professional theatre together by providing both affordable and educational events. Executive Director of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance, John McEwen said in a statement, "There is nothing quite so wonderful as a live theatrical experience...we encourage you to attend and participate in an artistic activity with your children."
Some highlights of Family Week for 2002 include The Adventures of Perseus at William Paterson College and other venues, which will use puppetry to introduce children to numerous characters from Greek legends. Ben Vereen will present a lecture/demonstration at the Paper Mill Playhouse. The New Jersey Shakespeare Festival will offer free performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream and Macbeth. The plays will me made more accessible for younger audiences.
