News New U.K. Production of Calamity Jane To Star Jodie Prenger at Newbury's Watermill Theatre; Tour to Follow A new U.K. production of Calamity Jane, a stage adaptation of the 1953 film, is to star Jodie Prenger, and will begin performances July 17 at Newbury's Watermill Theatre for a run through Sept. 6, prior to a national tour.



The tour will begin performances at Plymouth's Theatre Royal Sept. 16, before visiting Edinburgh, Cheltenham, Nottingham, Cardiff, Bristol, Truo, Woking and Milton Keynes, with further dates to be announced. It will be produced by the Watermill Theatre with Jamie Wilson, Paul Elliott and Duncan C Weldon.



Adapted for the stage by Charles K. Freeman, Calamity Jane has music by Sammy Fain with lyrics by Paul Francis Webster. Nikolai Foster will direct a cast of actor-musicians, with musical arrangements and supervision by Catherine Jayes.

Prenger is best known for winning the role of Nancy in Cameron Mackintosh's West End production of Oliver! at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, through the BBC television series "I’d Do Anything." Since then she has starred in the National Theatre's production of One Man, Two Guvnors both in the West End and on tour and as Lady of the Lake in Spamalot. She is also a regular presenter on BBC Radio 2.



Foster's directorial credits include Beautiful Thing in the West End and on tour and Annie at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds, as well as Flashdance in the West End and a national tour of The Witches of Eastwick.
