News Nilaja Sun's Pike St. Opens Tonight Off-Broadway The new drama Pike St. will have its world premiere Nov. 15 at the Abrons Art Center. The new monologue play is written and performed by Obie winner Nilaja Sun, who returns Off-Broadway following her acclaimed solo show No Child.

Pike St. is presented by Epic Theatre Ensemble and helmed by executive director Ron Russell. Previews began Nov. 10.

Sun's newest work tells the story of Evelyn, whose teenage daughter Candace is unable to move or breathe on her own after a mysterious aneurysm. Stuck in a crumbling tenement, the struggling family prepares to weather the next big storm.

"Sun uses her trademark humor, political incisiveness, and virtuosity to bring to life the entirety of the Lower East Side, from decorated Puerto Rican war veteran Manny, to octogenarian downstairs neighbor Mrs. Applebaum, to Candace herself," state press notes.

Sun is a playwright and performer whose show No Child garnered critical acclaim and toured the country following its 2006 Off-Broadway debut. Her film and TV credits include "Louie," "30 Rock" and "Law & Order: SVU."
