Frank Scheck, critic for the Christian Science Monitor and former editor of Stages magazine, told Playbill On-Line the meeting took a little less than two hours. He wouldn't discuss voting details but did say no clear winner emerged on the first ballot, and that the "protracted length" of the morning meeting was due to other issues discussed besides the actual voting. Scheck also said choices on his own first ballot were Skylight and The Life.

Last year's New York Drama Critics Circle winners were Seven Guitars and Rent. Jacques LeSourd, of the Gannett newspaper chain, serves as president of the critics' organization.
