Presented as part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival's partnership events, the free seminars begin with Michael John LaChiusa (The Wild Party, Giant, Hello Again), Monica Bauer (Lighter) and Bryan Putnam (The Toymaker) on Oct. 1 at 5 PM. Theatre columnist Peter Filichia will interview the threesome, who will discuss the challenges of authoring, book, music and lyrics for their shows.
On Oct. 8 at 5 PM, ASCAP musical theatre director Michael A. Kerker will interview Joe DiPietro (Memphis, Toxic Avenger), Mark Hollmann (Urinetown), Will Aronson (My Scary Girl), Kyoung-Ae Kang (My Scary Girl) and Eric Wainaina (Mo Faya) about the worldwide draw of musical theatre.
The last session will feature Tony winners Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, who will discuss the course of Next to Normal's journey from conception, revisions and workshops to its Tony-winning Broadway bow. NYMF executive director Isaac Robert Hurwitz will conduct the Oct. 15 5 PM interview.
Additional programming includes the musical spectacle Argentina passionate! (Oct. 5-7); Jim Caruso's Cast Party (Sept. 28, Oct. 5 and 12); and Musicals on Television including "The Bachelor," "Hans Brinker, or the Silver Skates," "Alice Through the Looking Glass" and "Carousel" (Oct. 10-11).
