Musical theatre stars Stephen Schwartz, Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt are some of the top names now associated with a musical theatre summit planned for Oklahoma City this coming spring.
The Oklahoma City University has begun to accept both unpublished and unproduced works for its upcoming Polaris Summit for New Music Theatre. The summit takes place May 10-12 in Oklahoma City. The deadline for applications is March 1, 2000.
Confirmed to participate in the program are Stephen Schwartz (Pippin, The Hunchback of Notre Dame) and Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt (The Fantasticks) with others expected. Members of the Oklahoma Opera and Music Theatre Company will perform “a representative scene and two songs each of four selected submissions” a prepared statement reads.
Two submissions are being accepted per author. Interested parties should submit a packet containing a bio, a one-page synopsis, a demo tape (if available) a $15 reading fee, a typed and bound script and a stamped SASE and send it to Polaris Summit, c/o Debbie Musick, Oklahoma City University, 2501 N.
