The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center of Waterbury, CT, will present a reading of Cusi Cram's new play, Lucy and the Conquest July 10-11, as part of the O’Neill Playwrights Conference. Liz Diamond will direct.
Lucy and the Conquest takes place in Bolivia, where heroine Lucy Santiago heads after she if fired from a show call "Beach Detectives." She'd like to forget about everything, but is constantly reminded about her race's history by a hundred-year-old grandmother and a "latter-day conquistador." The reading is at 8 PM.
The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, founded in 1964 and based in Waterford CT, is home to programs that explore the variety of theatrical disciplines and forms, including: the Playwrights Conference, Music Theater Conference, Critics Institute, Puppetry Conference and Cabaret Symposium, as well as the National Theater Institute and the Monte Cristo Cottage, the childhood home of O’Neill.
