Duke will play an Alzheimer’s-afflicted mother of a murder victim in one episode of the second season.

"Hawaii Five-0," according to CBS, "is a contemporary take on the classic series about a new elite federalized task force whose mission is to wipe out the crime that washes up on the Islands' sun-drenched beaches."

When the Five-0 team attempts to inform Duke's character of her son's death, they learn she believes that her adult son is actually still a child. Initially, they decide to hold back the news.

Duke made her Broadway debut as Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker. She went on to reprise her role in the 1962 film adaptation, for which she received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She has also been seen on Broadway in Isle of Children and Oklahoma! Among her television credits are "The Patty Duke Show," "It Takes Two" and "Hail to the Chief."

"Hawaii Five-O" will return to CBS Sept. 19 and air Monday nights at 10 PM ET.
