Actress-singer Patti LuPone has been cast in a television pilot for NBC. The Tony-winning star of Evita will portray a hip mom in the new comedy, "Life at Five Feet."
LuPone's spokesman confirmed that the star of Broadway's Noises Off is currently in Los Angeles filming her role in the NBC Studios/Pariah sitcom. LuPone will return to her role as Dotty Otley in the Michael Frayn Broadway comedy on April 14.
"Live at Five Feet" concerns a writer who ghostwrites a column in a magazine for a famous supermodel. The comedy also stars Alex Borstein as the writer, Victor Raider Wexler as her father and Robert Bagnell as the magazine's editor.
LuPone, who was the first American actor to win an Olivier Award, has starred onstage in Sweeney Todd, The Old Neighborhood, Master Class, Sunset Boulevard, Anything Goes, Les Misérables, Evita, The Cradle Will Rock, Oliver!, Accidental Death of an Anarchist and The Robber Bridegroom. Her film and television credits are numerous, and the Juilliard-trained actress will be seen opposite Robert De Niro in the upcoming feature film "City By the Sea." Also a world-renowned concert performer, LuPone's solo recordings include "Heatwave," "Patti LuPone Live" and "Matters of the Heart."
Noises Off, which also features Peter Gallagher, Faith Prince, Katie Finneran and Richard Easton, plays Broadway's Brooks Atksinon Theatre (256 W. 47th Street). Tickets are available at the theatre's box office or by calling (212) 307-4100.
