PlayBlog Patti on Porter and Sondheim In a recent interview with Playbill.com, Tony and Olivier Award winner Patti LuPone spoke about two composers whose scores have provided some of her most successful theatrical outings: Cole Porter and Stephen Sondheim.


"Well, Cole Porter is extremely witty and romantic," said LuPone. "And Steve is the same … I don’t know how to make those kinds of comparisons, [but] I do know that it’s an achievement and an unbelievable joy to, if one can, accomplish the musicality of [Sondheim's] scores. If you can feel confident, then you can soar like no other composer. And, you know, Cole Porter wrote songs. And, Steve writes these, dare I say, these operas, these scores, that just soar!"
