Producers Nancy Nagel Gibbs, Greg Schaffert, Eva Price and Tom Smedes announced that the production will kick-off its tour at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in Denver, CO.
A mix of theatrical storytelling, language and stagecraft, Peter and the Starcatcher is based on the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. Tony Award winner Rick Elice (Jersey Boys, The Addams Family) authored the stage adaptation that uses 12 actors to recount the tale of adventure. It opened to rave reviews April 15 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.
Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson Tony Award nominee Timbers and Tony winner Roger Rees (The Addams Family, Nicholas Nickleby) co-direct the music-filled production that features songs by Wayne Barker.
Peter and the Starcatcher first opened Off-Broadway at the New York Theatre Workshop March 9, 2011, where it extended its run twice.
The Broadway production earned nine Tony Award nominations, including Best Play, Best Original Score, Best Direction, Best Featured Actor, Best Featured Actress, Best Costume Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Scenic Design and Best Sound Design. Steven Hoggett (American Idiot, Black Watch, Once) created the movement for the production, which has set design by Bloody Bloody Tony nominee Donyale Werle, costume design by Paloma Young, lighting design by Jeff Croiter, sound design by Darron L West and musical direction by Marco Paguia.
The Broadway cast is led by Tony Award nominee and "Smash" star Christian Borle (Legally Blonde, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Spamalot) as devious pirate Black Stache, with Tony nominee Celia Keenan-Bolger (Merrily We Roll Along, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Les Miserables, Bachelorette) as Molly and Adam Chanler-Berat (Next to Normal, Rent) as Boy.
Disney Theatrical Productions commissioned the work. Nancy Nagel Gibbs, Greg Schaffert, Eva Price and Tom Smedes produce the Broadway engagement.
Peter and the Starcatcher began life at the La Jolla Playhouse as part of the company's Page To Stage Play Development program.
